NIU Implements Electronic Research Administration (eRA) Software, InfoEd

The Division of Research & Graduate Studies will be implementing new research administration software, InfoEd, throughout the 2007-2008 academic year. The Office of Sponsored Projects, Office of Research Compliance and Technology Transfer Office began using the InfoEd software in the winter of 2006. Implementation throughout the NIU campus is expected to begin in the spring of 2008. The project has assumed the name NIU eRA, Northern Illinois University Electronic Research Administration. The name signifies an effort to promote the wide range of functions that will become available in this system, not only for research related projects, but for the many great creative and public service activities taking place at NIU as well.

What NIU eRA will mean to NIU faculty and staff:

  • A unified “store front” for activities such as the initiation of external proposals, requests for human and animal subjects protocols/amendments, and intellectual property disclosure statements
  • The ability to electronically route, approve and track the status of the above activities
  • Implementation of system to system (S2S) proposal submissions
  • Expanded reporting capabilities
  • Electronic data storage within the specific record of activity (external proposal, protocol or disclosure)

For questions regarding the NIU eRA implementation, please contact Dara Little, Assistant Director of OSP (815-753-1581; dlittle@niu.edu).
